Gill is a retired teacher, who spent 34 years at Huntington School teaching thousands of the young people of York, some of whom may remember her!
Born in rural Northamptonshire, she went to Manchester University and started her teaching career in the city. She moved to York in 1978. She has two sons, who both attended Manor School in York.
Gill has always been interested in political, social and environmental issues and is a long-term Labour party supporter, based in Acomb ward.
Gill is a Christian and a member of St Chads on the Knavesmire church. She helps out at a weekly ‘Knit & Natter’ group and a coffee morning, which welcome all comers! She is a member and supporter of the Samaritans organization.
Gill is also an enthusiastic supporter of the Fairtrade movement.
She is supported in her role as Sheriff by her consort and friend, Ann Bush.
